How’s this for a rumor? According to Bloody-Disgusting, the Suspiria remake that director David Gordon Green is working on as his follow-up to Pineapple Express may have found itself a star: none other than Natalie Portman.

The 1977 original is a classic in the horror genre, as the first part (and some say best) of legendary director Dario Argento’s Three Mothers trilogy. It starred Jessica Harper as a newcomer to a fancy European ballet academy who discovers that the school is actually a front for a much more sinister organization (no, not a group of mimes).

Natalie’s not exactly an obvious choice for a horror movie, but seeing as how she’s one of my favorite actresses I think she’d be an interesting one for the role. Any time you’re remaking a film with a cult following as dedicated as Argento’s, it’s important for the project to have some credibility (Platinum Dunes, are you listening?). Again, it’s just a rumor for now, but considering both Green and Natalie’s track records, I’d say the pairing ought to quiet any fan concerns… right? After all, it’s not like we’re talking Jessica Alba here.
